Bible Reading Groups are groups of 4-8 believers who gather weekly or bi-weekly to discuss their Bible readings for spiritual growth and to develop deeper spiritual friendships.
The Biblical Model
Bible Reading Groups will help us Bring the Gospel to Life through daily spiritual disciplines and regular meetings with fellow believers. This group model is based on Jesus’ parable of the Sower in the Gospels. This parable points us to three essential elements:
Sowing God's Word
The primary activity of Bible Reading Groups is to read God’s Word together, discuss it, and allow it to influence our lives. Journaling and scripture memorization are highly encouraged, either indivually or in a small group setting.
Cultivating Christian Community
Led by the Holy Spirit, the group will nurture each other by sharing what God is teaching them throughout the week, encouraging and praying for one other, and speaking truth into each other's lives.
Producing Fruit
Producing the fruit of the Spirit through Christian accountability Led by the Holy Spirit, the group will hold each other accountable to listen to Jesus and to obey what He is telling us to do. The goal is to empower and hold each other accountable for real life change.
What "Together" Means
Meet Together
Weekly is always best if possible, but may not always be feasible for everyone in the group. It is more difficult to gain traction and make progress when you only meet every other week, but is certainly a viable option. Consistency is key for success.
Study Together
Commit to reading the scripture readings daily. If you fall behind, just keep moving forward! As a group, consider monthly scripture memorization and journaling in your note-taking bibles to enhance your discussion and experience in God’s Word.
Pray Together
Prayer is simply communicating with God. There is no relationship without communication, so you need to spend time praying and listening in order to grow your relationship with Christ. Your group should commit to a lifestyle of prayer and make sure to pray for those in your group throughout the week.
Live Life Together
This style of community is the perfect setting to be real with ourselves, with God, and with each other. Small groups create a setting to be transparent and allow others to help us grow to become more like Christ. If we truly want to get to the next level spiritually, we must humbly allow others to speak truth into our lives.
